Bezer: Beavis And Butthead Movie

May 15th, 2008

In what could possibly be the worst idea of all time, Beavis And Butthead creator Mike Judge has began making plans for a live-action movie based on the two legendary characters. And who will play our loveable duo, I hear you cry. Sean William Scott (Stifler from American Pie) as Beavis and Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite from…er…Napoleon Dynamite). For my money, it’s a shit idea. Beavis And Butthead Do America was pretty much perfect and those characters can’t be replicated by humans. Imagine Stifler as cornholio? Nah. I’m not buying it.

Bezer: A rant about Pendulum

May 13th, 2008

Ok, I’ve tried but I just don’t get the fuss. The Prodigy - there is a band that knows how to fucking rock. Not because they have guitars or a bad ass motherfucker with attitude coming out of every orifice, spikey hair and facial piercings but because they can do this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pf2cLUZrpO0. I even get Dizzee Rascal’s rock credability. The guy loves Sepultura, throws Rage Against The Machine and Korn riffs into his live shows and creates music with more aggression than most rock bands you’d care to mention.

Pendulum though, I don’t get it. It’s not that the music’s god-awful or that the band’s popularity is fashion-orientated. It’s just that I don’t get why they’re on rock festival bills. Where’s the attitude? Where’s the balls? I just don’t see it, man. Lethal Bizzle has more right to be on the Donwload bill in my opinion. Discuss?

Gill: Def Lep Blog

May 7th, 2008

Part of you knows not to get your hopes up. You’ve had your heart broken before: Motley Crue at the Pavillion, LA Guns at the Underworld and Faster Pussycat cancelling. It’s better to have gigged and lost than to have not gigged at all. Bollocks.

But the other part is wanting, wish and – dangerous – expecting it to be amazing. They’re pros, you know all the songs, it’s a rare treat in such a small venue and you’ve waited 15 years to see them. How could it possibly go wrong.

(Oh, and you’re a little edgy because you quit drinking and smoking and are still working out whether you like gigs, or whether that was just the backdrop and soundtrack to a movie about fags and booze).

After only two or three songs, the boys and their 800-odd audience were all pumping fists, singing along, cheering and whistling like excited teenagers. In amongst a set of solid classics were a handful of newbies, and contrary to what you might expect, they sound fresh as fuck.

Anyway, they were amazing, I saw Lep do ‘Pour Some Sugar On Me’, I can die happy.

NB: Things to think about:

Rick Allen’s strangely buff body.

Whether Vivian Campbell has a lisp.

How much Joe Elliott looks like Jonathan Ross.

How much Joe Elliott’s face moves like Jonathan Ross’.

How they don’t sound like they’re from Sheffield.

Whether I will be able to see myself in the crowd when the DVD comes out.

Bezer: Alkaline Trio

May 6th, 2008

The Alkaline Trio’s brand new album arrived at Hammer Towers late last week. It’s a wee bit poppier than the band have sounded in recent times and a lot of the dark overtones that made them a more interesting prospect have all but disappeared. That said, it’s bright and breezy enough and if you don’t mind that sort of thing, there’s a decent amount of chirpy melody for a hot summers day. Certainly seems like a growe on first impressions.

Top Ten: Onstage Faux Pas

May 2nd, 2008

2. Metallica/GnR – White Riot

One minute you’re playing a show in Montreal, picking out the intro to ‘Fade To Black’ and watching your lovely coloured pyrotechnics going off one by one; the next thing you know, one of those pretty flames has just set you ablaze, given you second and third degree burns all over the left hand side of your body and sent you on a first class trip to hospital. With Metallica obviously having to cut their set short, their co-headliners Guns N’ Roses had a chance to be the heroes of the day by playing a blistering set and sending everyone home happy. The problem being that this is Axl we’re dealing with who stormed offstage after a few songs due to monitor and throat problems, leaving the crowd to riot, turning over cars, looting shops and setting fire to everything in sight. Good job, buddy!

1. Dillinger Escape Plan - The shit heard around the world.

It’s an old saying that when you’ve got to go, you’ve got to go but it’s one that Dillinger Escape Plan nutcase Greg Puciato took way too seriously onstage at Reading in 2002. The man who bears resemblance to a brick shithouse had decided that the time had come for him to drop his trousers and flex his anus muscles for the world to see, pinching one off into a carrier bag before launching it into the crowd. It was watched by an estimated audience of 60,000. It’s enough to put you off of the dog-shit hamburger that you’ve just paid £6 for.

Gwyneth Paltrow back in action

May 2nd, 2008

"We had no money and were shooting a lot in one day. It was very intense and very raw. I don't know that I would characterize it as fun. But it was an amazing experience, and I feel very lucky."

Bezer; The New Judas Priest Arrives

May 2nd, 2008

And so, the new Judas Priest double album ‘Nostradamus’ has arrived in the Metal Hammer office. On first listen, your local resident Beez is not pleased. It’s a little cliched and feels like you’ve heard it all before from Halford and the boys but it’s too early to seal it in concrete and drop it into the Thames just yet. Being the newbie at the ‘Hammer though, I didn’t bargain on the feirce response I would receive for airing this critique out loud in the office. It has now been suggested that I be made to listen to it on a daily basis (imagine the musical version of what happened to Malcolm McDowell in A Clockwork Orange) until I love it unconditionally. Isn’t this level of indoctrination parallel to how Hitler came to power in Germany?

Bezer: The Incredible Hulk Trailer

May 1st, 2008

Just days after bringing you the leaked Dark Knight trailer, here’s a look at Ed norton as the not-so-jolly green giant. http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/theincrediblehulk/. It looks pretty good and let’s be honest, it can’t be any worse than the Ang Lee effort a few years back. Nick Nolte in the Hulk? Shit idea. Anyways, Tim Roth, Liv Tyler and Ed Norton sounds like good casting and with any luck we’ll have a whole bunch of kick-ass superhero films this summer.
